Dehra Dun, Aug. 30 (PTI): At least 19 people were killed and 31 others injured in separate road accidents in Uttarakhand, official sources today said.
Eight people were killed and 23 others injured when a bus fell into a ditch after being hit by boulders from a hilltop at Guilo village in Chamoli district this morning. Rescue operation have been launched in the area. Chief Minister B C Khanduri expressed shock over the accidents and asked district authorities to provide the best medical care.
In a separate mishap in Kanarichhina are of Almora district yesterday, a jeep carrying 17 passengers fell into a 200-meter deep khud killing nine of them. Eight others were also injured in the incident.
Two women were washed away in the fast currents of a Ganga canal near Rishikesh after the motorcycle on which they were riding met with an accident and fell into it. However, the man, who was driving the bike managed to swim to safety.
The government has ordered a compensation of Rs 50,000 to all the victims.
