Five Army climbers go missing in Uttarakhand

New Delhi: Five climbers of the Army, attempting to scale the 25,300-feet Nandadevi East peak in Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, have reportedly gone missing, an Army spokesman said here on Friday night.

The five members of the expedition team, including one officer, one junior commissioned officer and three others, went missing in inclement weather condition on September 26, the spokesman said.

A search and rescue operation both on the ground and air had been launched, he said.

"There is still no trace of the missing climbers. Bad weather and heavy snowfall has hampered rescue operation," the spokesman said.
