DEHRA DUN: The Uttarakhand government announced a package of Rs 47.58 crore to improve the financial health of the loss making sugar mills of the State. "The package of Rs 47.58 crore will be given to sugar mills both in private sector as well as cooper ative sector,'' the State Chief Minister, Mr B C Khanduri said at a press conference. Rs 6.51 crore would be given to Nadehi Sugar Mill, Rs 3.95 crore to Bajpur Sugar Mill, Rs 8.31 crore to Gadarpur, Rs 13.22 crore to Sitarganj, Rs 5.59 crore to Kichcha and Rs 9.96 crore to Doiwala Sugar Mill, Mr Khanduri said.
The state assistance came in the wake of sugar mills finding it difficult to pay back the money due to the farmers as sugar prices slumped. With the government aid, Mr Khanduri said the sugar mills would be able to pay the dues to the farmers till Augus t 16, 2007. - PTI
